Though skies were gray and rain dripped down this past Sunday, the weather could not dampen the spirits of hundreds of spectators as they ogled dozens of extravagantly dressed animals, from a dachshund covered in colorful blooms to a hamster wearing a tiny, pink dress. It was Macy’s annual “Petacular Fair” pet fashion show and contest. Held each year at the department store’s historic Herald Square location in Manhattan — and immortalized in the film, Miracle on 34th Street — the Petacular signals the debut of Macy’s Annual Flower Show, on display from March 28 to April 10.

A pig dressed in a plaid Burberry frock, pearls, flowers and carrying a Louis Vuitton handbag caused a commotion. The fashionably-attired pig stood hogging the spotlight as a large and admiring crowd formed around her. Children toddled over to pet the pig’s wiry fur as parents clamored for photographs. “Her name is Kosher the Pig and she’s a nine-year-old, Vietnamese pot-bellied pig,” the sow’s owners, Matthew and Marjori Lobman of Long Island, told Paw Nation. “She has her own dressmaker.” ojito, a one-pound Chihuahua wearing a red-and-white Chicken Little outfit, elicited squeals from a pair of young women — tourists from Canada. “Can we hold him?” they asked Mojito’s owner, doggie fashion designer, Ada Nieves. “Sure,” said Nieves, handing the tiny dog to one of the women, as the other took pictures.

In the spirit of this year’s theme, “Spring is in the Air,” a nine-month-old Maltese-bichon named Marshmallow sported lavender and purple highlights throughout her white fur. “Every season has a color and this season, it’s ‘spring purple,'” the pup’s owner, hair stylist Jorge Esteves, wearing a purple tie and pink fedora,A pair of aging basset hounds — 10-year-old Lily and 12-year-old Lola — wore matching pink tutus and butterfly wings. “I adopted them five years ago from a rescue group,” said Doris Sweeney, who drove in from New Jersey for the event. “They love the attention and meeting people.”

Guest of honor at this year’s Petacular was Sadie, the dazzling Scottish terrier who won the nation’s top dog title at the prestigious Wesminster Kennel Club Dog Show in February. Sadie sat under a gazebo — sans costume — patiently receiving her public, who stood in line to meet the champion dog and take pictures with her. “We don’t want to say that Sadie is ‘retired,'” Yvonne Rangel, whose husband Gabriel Rangel, handles Sadie in the ring, told Paw Nation. “Sadie’s plans this year are to be a [first-time] mom. She has a boyfriend in Sweden who’s waiting for her to come into season.”

Though Kosher the Pig was too big to hoist onto the stage to compete in the fashion show, dozens of animals walked, waddled or were carried down the runway. The title of Best Cat went to Snowy, an eight-year-old white feline who wore a fuzzy, gray lion outfit. The Most Exotic Pet was Juarez, the dress-wearing hamster. Tito, a Pomeranian wearing a large sunflower around his face was proclaimed Best Dog and won the ultimate title of The Grand Petacular.

I am such an animal lover. Not even including fish I have 11 dogs and cats that are my babies. I really wish to obtain a good unique sort animal, not really a reptile or something but far more along the lines of a monkey or some thing cuddley that is not natrually necessarily mean. When I came across this website, it manufactured me want that exotic animal much more and I’ve came to the conclusion that I am not having any additional dogs or cats so I can make room for it. I cannot wait!
