This is the satisfied look of a gorilla who is a hit with the female of the species.Oumbie, a 28st silverback, arrived at Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire on September 2 with the task of producing offspring. He has successfully wooed two lady gorillas and one may be pregnant already. At his previous home, Port Lympne Wild Animal Park in Kent, the 17-year-old great ape was kept in an all-male group. But it seems life in mixed company suits him. Oumbie created quite an impression when he crawled out of his crate at his new home, according to animal keeper Donna Smithson.

She said the females gave him ‘a bit of a hard time to start with’, but he soon won them over.’Gorillas make flirty noises and strut about to try to impress each other,’ she said. ‘Oumbie has shown himself to be pretty good at that type of thing already.’He has mated with Ozala so it’s possible that she is pregnant already, although it sometimes takes a few encounters, as it were.He got there quite late at night so went straight to bed, but by September 4 he was in there with the two girls.

of Congo save the mountain gorilla, might the gorilla return the favour?

That is the hope of environmental activists, who realise that wildlife conservation and tourism could be the key to survival for people as well as animals in a part of Africa where conflict has been the norm.

Mountain gorillas are gentle giants that range across the borders of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa. These primates are considered extremely endangered, with fewer than 720 in existence.

Goma The Gorilla Turns 50!

go ri la 1

Switzerland’s Zoo Basel celebrates a remarkable birthday. Goma, the first gorilla ever born in a European zoo, turns 50! Unusual for the time, Goma got tremendous press in 1959 during her first year, and today we share some of these classic photos.

It should be noted that unlike zoo born gorillas today, Goma spent the first years of her life almost entirely with zoo staff. While this made her exceptionally close with humans, it made it difficult for her to enter gorilla society and it took many years for her to find her place with her fellow great apes. Today as a result of gorillas like Goma, zoos go to great lengths to ensure that their animals are comfortable with their own kind.

Lucky Yeboah: Male Gorilla With 3 Female Playmates In London Zoo

Lucky Yeboah: Male gorilla with THREE female playmates in London zoo We all like to be given a sneak preview before meeting a date for the first time. And judging by their reaction to his photograph, the beau lined up for these three gorillas must be quite a dish.
The three singletons at London Zoo will soon be joined by 12- year-old male Yeboah, who’s being flown over from France.
Mjukuu, 10, Effie, 16, and Zaire, 34, have lacked male attention since the death of silverback Bobby in December.

Staff offered them a glimpse of his 20-stone replacement to see if they would make an association between the picture and Yeboah’s face when he arrives.Staff at La Boissière du Doré zoo in western France have also shown Yeboah photos of the females for the same reason.
