Titan, The World's Tallest Dog, Doesn't Let Disabilities Slow Him Down

Since he was crowned the new World’s Tallest Dog last week, Titan, a 4-year-old white Great Dane, has gotten so much attention that his Web site crashed! The Guinness World Record holder stands 42.25 inches tall to his shoulder and weighs 190 lbs. Rescued from a breeder in 2005, he’s also deaf, mostly blind, and until two years ago, endured epileptic seizures, but none of these challenges are slowing this big guy down.

“The issues that he has don’t affect the dog one bit,” owner Diana Taylor tells Ezquara “I don’t look at him as a sickly, ailing dog. He actually is, to me, in many ways, at an advantage. He’s so calm, and his world is so peaceful.”

Titan (a.k.a. Tite-Tite) lives in dog-friendly San Diego with Taylor and his canine siblings, 5-year-old Great Dane Ari (also deaf) and 9-year-old German shepherd Diego. The family enjoys their active lifestyle, and they are always out at the dog beach, the dog park or dog restaurants. When it came time to take Titan’s official measurement for Guinness, Taylor threw a “big old party” for other dogs and friends at a local day spa. “Everything I do has to be a party!”

Taylor, who views Titan’s new title as a chance to educate people who are interested in Great Danes, is still working through all the guestbook comments she’s received on Titan’s Web site (which is up and running again).

US Woman Claims Her 7-Foot-Long Dog Is World’s Tallest

An American woman has claimed that her pet dog is the world’s tallest canine

TALLEST DOG

At 3 feet tall at the shoulders and 7 feet long from nose to wagging tail, he might be a contender.
Caryn Weber claims that her 3-year-old Landseer Newfoundland keeps all four paws on the floor when he drinks from the kitchen sink in her family’s farm house in eastern North Dakota. Boomer can stare into a car window eye to eye with a driver, Ms Weber says. A 20-pound bag of dry dog food lasts the 180-pound animal just a couple of weeks.

Ms Weber says the fluffy black and white dog “comes into the house and his tail is so high everything gets knocked around”.

Weber plans to send Boomer’s measurements to Guinness World Records. The previous record holder was a Great Dane that measured nearly 4 feet tall. That dog died last summer.

He’s ten feet tall with his head upright, weighs 3,000lb, and stands at 20.2 hands at the shoulder. So is Poe the Clydesdale the world’s tallest horse? His diminutive owner Shereen Thompson thinks so – and said she wants to ‘get the Guinness guys here as soon as possible’.

Poe stands 6ft 8.75in (80.8in) from hoof to shoulder. That is taller than the current tallest horse Remington, who was declared the official Guinness World Record holder only last week at 80in in Princeton, Texas.
Living on Ms Thompson’s working farm in Tupperville, Ontario, ten-year-old Poe stands ready to inch above his rivals.’We want to get the Guinness guys here as soon as possible,’ said Ms Thompson – who is dwarfed by her gentle giant, who towers over her 5ft 3in,120lb frame.

‘We have known for a while that he could be the tallest horse in the world, we just need to get the official documents that the people in London want to see.

Big Contender! Great Dane Could Nab Title of World's Tallest Dog

new tallest dog

When world’s tallest dog Gibson lost his battle with cancer on Aug. 7, he left his Guinness World Record up for grabs. Though he’ll never be forgotten, another dog will soon take on the title of world’s tallest — and that lucky pooch just may be Titan, a Great Dane living in San Diego with owner Diana Taylor.

The 4-year-old Titan was measured at a local dog day spa on Saturday and reportedly stands at 42.375 in. tall (compared to Gibson’s 42.2 in.). But he’s not just special because of his height. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Taylor adopted the dog in May 2005 from a Great Dane rescue in Tennessee.

R.I.P.: Gibson the World's Tallest Dog Dies of Cancer

tallest dog

Gibson, the world’s tallest dog according to Guinness World Records, died in the “loving arms” of his owner on Aug. 7 in Sacramento, Calif., according to the dog’s Web site. The 7-year-old pooch, who was suffering from cancer in recent months, measured in at 42.2 in.-tall when the Guinness World Records gave the canine the title in 2004.

In April, the harlequin great dane was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of canine bone cancer. Soon after, the dog had to have his right front leg amputated and went through chemotherapy treatments.

Sadly, just last week Gibson’s owner Sandy Hall found out that the cancer had spread. “Gibson began having trouble using his back legs. X-rays showed that the cancer had spread to his spine and his lungs,” Dr. Peter Walsh, Gibson’s veterinarian, said in a statement. “Ms. Hall made the very difficult decision based on her concern and love for Gibson to have him humanely euthanized. Gibson died peacefully in the loving arms of Ms. Hall.”

Hall will continue raise canine cancer awareness through the organization she launched during Gibson’s cancer battle, Three Paws for the Cause. And Gibson’s son, Brewster, remains a loving memory of her giant canine friend.
